JAKARTA (December 3, 2024) – Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting persons with disabilities (PwDs) during the grand celebration of the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) at Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta, on Tuesday (3/12/2024).

“The President and Vice President's commitment to PwD(s) is specifically stated in the 4th Asta Cita,” said Gus Ipul.

The 4th Asta Cita focuses on strengthening human resource development in various aspects, including science, technology, education, health, sports achievements, gender equality, and the empowerment of women, youth, and PwD(s).

This commitment is further emphasized in the 10th point of the President’s 17 priority programs, which highlights the importance of strengthening the role and protecting the rights of PwD(s).

Gus Ipul stated that Indonesia has ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and implemented it through Law Number 8 of 2016.

This law serves as a legal framework to ensure equal access to education, employment, and creative opportunities for persons with disabilities, free from discrimination.

IDPD serves as a momentum to reinforce the government’s commitment to disability inclusion. This year’s event adopts the theme "Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future".

"This theme underscores the need for persons with disabilities to have equal opportunities in decision-making, allowing them to shape policies that are fair, welfare-oriented, and centered on human rights," Gus Mensos stated.

The event’s tagline, #SetaraBerkarya ("Equal in Creativity"), further reinforces that every person with a disability has the same right to contribute to nation-building through their talents and creations.

Gus Mensos shared that IDPD 2024 activities began on December 1 and featured a range of initiatives, including health services, disability artwork exhibitions, talk shows, and entertainment.

Additionally, MoSA launched the e-catalog of paintings by artists with disabilities. A major highlight of IDPD 2024 was the record-breaking achievement in the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) for the largest and first-ever empowerment of persons with disabilities as BNI’46 Laku Pandai agents.
